Who Do I Coupon For?

This is a very personal question. But if you have been with us for a while, or even if you’re new, you know that couponing is nothing to be ashamed of! People of all walks of life and income levels choose to coupon because it SAVES MONEY. How is saving money ever a bad thing??

I am a single mom who started couponing as a way to save money but also as a new hobby to fill some extra time. Between 2008 and 2010 I was in grad school to finish my MBA. It took ALL of my free time. And honestly when I was done, I didn’t know what to do with myself! I wanted a new hobby to fill the time. I stumbled across The Coupon Wizards from a friend’s post on facebook and here I am.

But as I began couponing I realized that my household only consisted of two people but my desire to shop and find the deals was better fit for a family of six! So I decided I could do something good with my habit. Instead of picking up one or two freebies or cheap items, I picked up a few extra (depending on how many coupons I had, and being mindful not to clear any shelves). And I started putting everything into bags in the garage.

Couponing to Donate

In just a few short months I had about 6 paper grocery bags full of health & beauty items. I searched online to find a place to donate and found For Kids – a homeless shelter that takes in entire families (including small kids). This year I have brought them two big hauls of items for their facility and the families living there (razors, paper towels, toilet paper, toothbrushes, deodorant, and a lot more!).

And then in September my sister had her fourth child at only 28 weeks. My niece was only 1lb 6oz at birth. My sister and her husband were so busy going back and forth to the hospital and taking care of the three kids already at home. I changed my focus and started couponing for their family. I wanted to make it easier on them so they wouldn’t have to worry about going to the store for things. I shipped one big box to them already and I am getting ready to ship another soon (if I don’t get to travel to see them).

We all have different reasons for being here and wanting to learn how to coupon and how to save money in all aspects of daily life. The Coupon Wizards has grown into much more than a website or a Facebook page. It’s a community of friends who share deals and ideas and for that I am thankful to be a part of it.
